after predlude to a blog: (there is some dark disturbing content here within later in this blog, a friend did a challenging monologue queer theater piece on Jeffrey Dahmer - it was neither gruesome nor forgiving. I did not review the piece, I did, however, tell you how I viewed the idea of it, but dang, dark deal one and all) It makes me love my kids and their friends so much. They are much smarter and savvier than I ever thought I could be.
My daughter and I had most wonderful overnight get away to San Francisco from Saturday to Sunday.
We decided to make time in our both so busy schedules to get away together and decided to make a performance our reason to get the hell out of dodge.

I worked on Friday with a stupid return of a cold coming on. I power napped for twenty after work but made it up the hill with time to run errands and take my brother grocery shopping.
Then my friend Katie and I hooked up with my son for a visit. He was in a quiet mood but it was awesome to see him, as always.

Katie and I then headed over to the Cozmic Cafe to catch up with my daughter. We planned on staying for the music event that night then driving back with Joc so that Joc and I could leave from Davis to SF the next morning.
A long day but a very good plan.

I never actually heard much of the music. I had way more fun hanging out with Jocelyn, Becca and Ned a the "door" where they sold tix to the show.
There was some drama and I understand why Jocelyn is not loving certain things about her job at the Cozmic Cafe. Nevertheless, the show, performance and close went together seamlessly. Jocelyn is good at this promotion and business stuff. A born manager and musician!
We got home after midnight...I was dragging for sure but hoped a good nights sleep would revive me.
I woke up Saturday feeling more punk than ever. There was no way I was not going to San Francisco. We took our time that morning since check in at the room I reserved was not til 3pm any way. Joc had footwork for her Cozmic email Newsletter anyway. I pulled my self together, map quested the info and finally we hit the road.

Traffic was so light all the way to the city. Of course the mapquest directions were wrong but I can maneuver myself around the city well enough to not actually get lost. We took the scenic route, for sure.

Finally, our destination. All parked and to our room!
All we knew was that we were HUNGRY! Joc had eyed some places to eat as we had arrived. Once we settled in we hit the streets for some serious early dinner adventure.

The Year of the Tiger! Purrrrrr!!!
Well, we walked a lot more than either of us wanted. The sidewalks were filling up with serious Chinese New Year parade action. We found a noodle house
just a block from the hotel after walking around for an hour and a half. We buckled on the old feed bag and then got out of all of that as soon as possible.
We had other plans for our evening!
First thing on our agenda was PEDICURES!
Poor Jocelyn is so beautiful and so pregnant that any foot care is absolutely out at this time. Me with all my chain gang activity, well, any foot rubbin' can only be a wonderful thing. We found a shop able to work on both of our poor and tired dogs when we walked in. AWESOME times two!
The reason we decided to visit San Francisco was to see a play written and acted by Jocelyn's friend Evan. She has known him and been great friends with him since grade school up in Pollock Pines.
This experimental production is dark and riveting. Riveting could be a really bad word in context here as it is about the inner and perhaps remorseful thoughts of of Jeffrey Dahmer after his murder in 1994. He drilled into young men's heads to pour chemicals in to evaporate their organs so he could kill them and keep them whole for his compulsive distorted needs.

Evan Johnson, write and actor of "Don't Feel: The Death of Dahmer"
I will not review this theater piece here more than to say that I was impressed by the many layers that were addressed from a gay man's perspective about a dangerous and homophobic psychopath serial killer who, in the end, was a homosexual too.
Check out the websites on the play and read more about Jeffrey Dahmer (he is all over the web), if you care too. At the end of the play, the director, producer and actor/writer sat down with the audience for a "TALK TO" session to address all the concerns and fears a production like this taps into what people experience when they participate in a presentation like this one. Their work addresses more fear (homophobic, midwest, Christian, parental, anger, gosh, you name it) than it does judgment. I was completely impressed. Check out this youtube if you care to open your mind a bit more.
The production was deep, digging and not sentimental at all. High Five Evan! The entire theater company was filled with heart and kindness. I hope to catch another play soon!

Joc and I were up til after midnight on a Saturday night in San Francisco looking for a cab on Market Street.
We had to get a midnight snack before we hit the hay and we did. We did, however, run into a drunk guy in the lobby of our prestigious hotel as we were heading to our room. He was a bald and oxford shirted fellow of about perhaps 29 or more. He moved in on us quickly. I forget what he said exactly but he made both Jocelyn and I laugh and I made a retort that we were indeed needing an escort for our lobby walk about. Unfortunately, he hung with us the entire way to our special elevator saying to us "Guys are Dicks, right" and further blah blah blahs. At this point I said he needed to stop and go away. Once Joc and I were safely on our elevator to our tower suite we both agreed that he was so obnoxious and made us both nervous. He asked as we boarded "What are you guys doing tomorrow???" I told him, "Duders, I will be still be old and she will still be pregnant...now move along..."
Back in our room it was bed time for sure. We had made plans with Joc's friend Evan (the writer and star of our previous eve's theater experience) and his boyfriend for breakfast.

Joc that morn, with our Juniper in her tummy and our room with the awesome city view!
Joc and I enjoyed a quiet morning after with our free continental breakfast and wifi with our awesome comfy beds with four fluffy pillows each! Yay!

The food was great and our waiter guy was CUTE!
Our conversation was wonderful and memory filled for Jocelyn and Evan. His bf is gorgeous, respectful and oh so polite. Their theater company is inspiring, edgey and with more thought provoking plans for the future. Our morning was spectacular and we walked to our breakfast destination and still strolled back to the our hotel. Stopping and scoring at the Goodwill thrift store just up the block.

A really cute pic of my beautiful pregnant daughter with our awesome city view room (that would be Juniper in her gorgeous belly!)
Joc and I hung out in Union Square a bit more after we checked out of our wonderful room. We hit more expensive retails shops which are crowded in that downtown and colorful area. But, once you score a bunch of designer label stuff at Goodwill, well, it gets really hard to pay more than three dollars for anything. Awesome!

Cable car in Union Square

Vintage Bentley parked in front of some hip urban wear store that was later filled with bling covered rapper dudes when we left...

And so I leave you with:
An awesome photo of my daughter striking a pose with some futuristic mannequins at Sacs Fifth Avenue (a place that possesses no sales racks and the entire shoe department is below street level...)
A wonderful girl night out!
Oh yeah, you need a break today...
