  • In Observance of Escape

Cooking dinner at my same old place in Davis. Very very glad to be home. Had no idea how home it was until I came back. Wowie!

Even Esme seems lighter (in her hugely Rubenesque way) and happy to be back.

Not entirely moved all the way, but the big stuff is in it’s place and I am beginning to set the art about. (I have so much art…I have to rotate it or move)

When life is stressful I tend to take a break from the social scene and watch movies or go to bed early. Escape. That is the word for it.

Fortunately, situations have come up for me to help and work away from home, another resourceful escape.

This weekend, I rented a spare room in my place out to a young guy from Manhattan. He is starting his first year at UC Davis and needed a room for a couple of nights while he found a place to live and set up house. That was fun. Nice young man. We ended up spending most of Saturday together. He found a place but needed to furnish it. He arrived with his suitcase filled with his “stuff” and that was it.

I told him, since I have this huge station wagon, to let me know if he needed help moving furniture once he found what he needed. A little later, after I dropped him and his luggage off at his new place, he called and asked if I would take him to Ikea (in W Sac).  I had the day free after having brunch with friends. He and I set off for W Sac and accomplished that deed. We also stopped at Target where he picked up kitchen stuff and we grocery shopped. It was a very productive day and honestly, while, I should have been moving, it was much more fun for me to help this kid out.

It felt like I had a son at home for a day or two. We even watched a couple of movies together. Isn’t that hilarious? I was telling my son (my own personal son) about this just now and he called me his “eccentric and quirky mom”.

    I guess that is true.

Anyway, back to moving. I hope to do at least three car loads today. I have been cleaning and getting rid of stuff. Nothing like moving twice to open your eyes to all the unnecessary crap you have.

I really am trying to get rid of stuff…ack…

  • I don’t call it ‘escape’… I call it ‘me time’. Same thing, more pleasant title – lol. Enjoy it!

  • Quirly and eccentric is kinda fn sometimes. I think that is great you made another “son” friend. That was sweet of you to help him and I bet alot of good will come from that friendship. Good for your kinf heart….. Love you!!!

  • All kids need an older person, unrelated, to be there for them…even if it is just for a moment or two.

I just love how you open your home the way you do.

  • Glad things are working out. It is hard to decide what to keep when moving. When you think about it, a lot of stuff never gets used after a while. But then again, you can get attached to things. Oh well. I’ll do some escaping myself now into the Internet.

  • are you eccentric?

glad you are glad to be back home, Cassi.

    hugs.

  • I love your personality Cassie and would never consider you eccentric!  I consider you adventurous and open hearted!

  • @heart_beep - hey HB, coming from my son, that is actually a compliment. ;)

  • Nothing wrong with eccentric & quirky.  Nothing at all.

  • I love the Swedish meatballs at IKEA.

  • @Orlando - I never went inside. I could smell the cinnamon buns from the parking lot though. Wow.

  • You have crap that is not necessary?  I never thought of that….. I thought all crap was necessary..Oh, glad you are back.

  • @vexations - I was under that illusion for a very very long time until I moved twice in a month. You will be surprised how those box fulls and box fulls of trinkets and charms turn into crap after you have been carrying car load after car load of them for a month or so. ;)

  • For me Cassi you are a people who ,loves and brings help; . If this means” to be excentric” then  yes you are and I love you for this .
BTW , who helps you for the move , to carry furniture and heavy items ?
     Love

  • Hi Cassi… wow you went to Paris- wow.  The blogs were great.  It is amazing how travel changes a person.  It inner moves things about and gives such a different perspective…..but alas the thing that travelers rarely talk about it creates such change that what follows is disquiet.  No more unconscious movement through the day just because you’ve experienced in such a different way.

A big yay you went traveling- it was your dream and it sounds as if you picked the perfect travel partner.

Send a hello on to Debi…hope her move is going well. Take good care Cassi will drop in and catch up off and on.  x g
