  • Cool New Stuff

What is up with this? I keep buying really cool stuff while I am unemployed. I am working most days so it isnt like I have all this free time to shop.

That free time I usually fill up with drinking, so, I am too drunk to shop or count out change. Please…remember my pin number after a double mojito? Forget about it!

I have a little Canon PowerShot that I take photos with. I love it. It is small and takes great pictures. It has it’s shortcomings, but for a packable point and shoot, it is awesome. I have in the past had pretty nice 35mm cameras (stolen). I use to take lots and lots of hard copy pictures. Of course, you can tell by the number of photos I post here. And I love black and white. Nothing like film for black and white.

A digital 35mm like camera is so expensive. And, honestly, I need to reacquaint myself with using a 35 mm after all these years of point and shoot.

Canon EOS 1DS Mark II  this little baby goes for around 7 grand with the lens!

Here is where I am going with this….I peruse craigslist all the time for the job hunt. I get side tracked after finding no mortgage work in my area to apply to and maybe might go price out Fiats or rentals in Landpark. I might see what is out there in the way of a used Canon Rebel camera. I might do that pretty regularly since that is my dream digital.

I came across a Canon Rebel film camera for fifty bucks. FIFTY BUCKS! I contacted the seller and she told me that she has switched everything to digital, loves this camera but wont be using it any more. We discussed meeting so I could look at it but she is over in Folsom and works in Rancho Cordova. I was going to be at my Mom’s on Wednesday and offered to stop by her job to see the camera and most likely buy it. She said, “Oh bother, I will leave it on my porch, if you want it go ahead and put the money under the mat.”

My mom and I went by after her doctors appointment and there it was. Is that so wild and cool? We both connected on how great this camera is and blah blah blah. So, anyway, I have a cool film camera to start re-learning how to take photo’s with. And, my friend Bridgette wants me to take my film over to the university darkroom with her and she will help me learn how to develop my own film. COOOOOL!

So, now I am all over online learning how to use it. She couldnt find the manual but I will figure it out. I am so excited.

My Mom’s doctor visit resulted in further tests for neuropathy. This would be nerve damage. It does not sound promising but it helps her to realize that her declining use of her hands and feet are caused by something specific. You know, information can empower people. In that, she will be less angry about her disability realizing it isnt something that she can control. Under the circumstances. I dont mean to sound negative, just hopeful that she will relax and take and request more help as her disability makes things hard on her. You know what I mean?

Alright, that is my story and I am sticking to it.

How all of you doing xanga-maniacs?

  • that is so amazing finding a great camera. I love cameras.

I hope you and your mom can find some way of easing her ailments.

  • :( for your mom and all the heartaches. Cool camera….the unemployed thing sucks….am there myself now…UGH!!!!

  • You go girl, unemployment has not stopped my spending either, just slowed it WAY down.  Pardon me for asking but is your mom a diabetic? that is what mostly causes neuropathy uncontrolled blood sugar, which I am scared to death of myself.

  • Seek and ye shall find!!
Glad your mom found some answers. I have a bit of neuropathy too… can be frustrating feeling like there is no circulation there…..
Wishing happy and healthy wishes for you all.

  • mmmm cameras. i love ‘em!

  • I took photography in high school and love my “old” camera. It takes the most amazing pictures. It’s like it knows what I want it to do after all this time.
    Have a great Thursday!

  • Grand minds think the same Cassi . I have pictured last Tuesday my collection of cameras …since 1945 or so . And the picture taken by the oldest ones  .

It ‘ s great you are learning to develop the film . It ‘ s precious and good for the art photos in black and white .
    Hopeful for your mother .

    Love

  • That’s a nice buy on a great camera.  I have the same, only digital version.  I loooooooove my camera.  I still have my film camera… but really don’t have any use for it anymore.

Are you gonna be posting a bunch of pics for us now?!?!?    :)

  • I looked at a Rebel digi when I bought my A95.  Thought I could take better pics indoors by putting a more powerful flashlight on it.  But the A95 fits in my pocket and we can take it everywhere.  I would not have been able to lug that big thing around in the boat and on trips like we do with the little one.

  • Totally cool camera. Congratulations on the great find.

  • great find witt he camera .. and neuropathy … that just  sucks …
